Report on the discordance of food irradiation regulations
The Global Harmonization Initiative (GHI) is an international non-profit network of individual scientists and scientific organizations working together to promote harmonization of global food safety regulations and legislation. GHI relies on food scientists and experts in industry, government and academia to voice scientific consensus and make recommendations on food safety laws and regulations, globally.
In October 2018 GHI published a document reviewing food irradiation regulations, permitted doses and labelling requirements in a large number of countries. GHI considers that the lack of harmonization is an impediment to the use of a technology that can provide solutions for food safety and security.
