What to expect from the iia in 2026
As we move into 2026, the iia looks forward to continuing its work in support of its members and the irradiation community. Our role to ‘Communicate. Educate. Advocate.’ will continue to be at the core of our activities. This year we will be developing initiatives that bring our community together and enable us to achieve more together.
We will be giving particular focus to the needs of the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries, food and phytosanitary irradiation, and developing iia’s collaboration with its international partners.
Gamma, e-beam and X-ray technologies will be supported by a new Technologies Working Group to reflect the shared and overlapping needs of these technologies.
Initiatives to support and give a voice to the scientific community will evolve during 2026 following the successful formation of SERP (Science & Engineering of Radiation Processing) at the end of last year.
Key events coming soon this year
The iia has a busy first half of the year, organising and participating in key industry events. Following the success of iia’s 2025 webinar programme, we will continue delivering virtual events for the irradiation community, starting with our first webinar of the year, A New Era of Sterility Assurance, on 11 February.
We are also expanding our face-to-face engagement. We are particularly excited to bring industry together at the iia Roadshow to held immediately before INTAC China in April 2026. The iia is also participating in both NICSTAR-2026 and a Technical Exchange, to be held immediately after NICSTAR in March 2026, as well as the IAEA Accelerators Conference in June 2026.

Stay tuned for IMRP 2027 details
Arrangements for the next International Meeting on Radiation Processing (IMRP 2027) are well underway. The meeting will take place in Düsseldorf from 12 – 16 April 2027 and we will start sharing further updates next month.
Please note that iia members receive a significant registration discount for our events. To take advantage of this benefit for IMRP 2027, it is necessary to be a member of iia during both 2026 and 2027. Early-bird registration will open later this year and iia membership must be valid both at the time of registration and during the event to receive the discount.
