Symec supplies gamma irradiator to Ansell

Symec Enginers Pvt Ltd, a member of iia, partnered with Ansell Sterile Solutions Pvt Ltd to set up India’s first integrated medical glove manufacturing, packaging and sterilization facility at SIPCOT Industrial Park, Perundurai, Tamil Nadu.  The facility will span more than 70,000 sq meters when completed next year and the ‘Phase 1 Go Live!’ event was held on 24th March 2023 to inaugurate the packaging & sterilization units.

Symec completed the supply and commissioning of the 3MCi gamma irradiation unit and handed the facility over to Ansell in November 2022.  For many multinational medical product manufacturers like Ansell, setting up a gamma Irradiation facility in India is an increasingly attractive proposition due to the industry friendly policies of the Indian Government as well as the long term reliability, availability & cost competitiveness of cobalt-60 supply within India. Cobalt-60 in India is supplied by Board of Radiation & Isotope Technology (BRIT), Govt of India, that had a production capacity of 6.7 Million Curies in 2021 and which is slated to increase in the coming years to meet the domestic and international demand.
