IRSN France joins iia
The iia is pleased to welcome Institute de Radioprotection et de Sûreté Nucléaire (IRSN) France as its latest new member. IRSN contributes to the safety of existing and future nuclear facilities, and to the radiological monitoring of French national territory and of workers exposed to ionising radiation. IRSN offers its expertise and services in nuclear safety, human radiation protection and environmental protection to authorities and industrials worldwide. As a technical safety organization (TSO), IRSN is also operating scientific partnership and providing scientific cooperation and services through agreements with international organizations, and is a founding member or partner of 14 organizations and networks.
IRSN’s research focuses not only to acquiring new scientific knowledge, but also on developing the technical tools required to control risks and help expand the Institute’s expertise capabilities. These programs are adapted to take into account normative, regulatory, technological, industrial and social issues.
IRSN facilities include: Gamma: EPICUR Co60, MICADO Cs137 (Cadarache), IRMA Co60 (Saclay); X-ray: SARRP, ALPHEE (Fontenay-aux-Roses); Ebeam: ALPHEE (Fontenay-aux-Roses); Ion: MIRCOM (Cadarache); and Neutron: AMANDE, VAN GOGH (Cadarache). Their expertise includes: irradiation of materials; ageing of polymers and other compounds; the study of radiation/matter interactions; radiobiology; irradiation of living organisms and cells; and instrument calibration.
