New irradiation center in Vietnam

The construction of a new irradiation center next to Cai Cui port, the central port of the Mekong Delta in Vietnam, has been announced by Can Tho Irradiation Joint Stock Company on July, 14, 2022.

On an area of nearly 2 hectares, a multi-purpose irradiation facility equipped with a gamma irradiator and an accelerator will be built along with four warehouses at ambient and controlled temperatures.

The gamma irradiator will be designed and manufactured by the Centre for Radiation Research and Development under the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute The facility, expected to start at the beginning of 2023, will have the capacity to irradiate 50,000 tons agricultural and aquatic product each year.

The promoters of the project believe that the strategic location will optimize transportation and logistics costs for users in the Mekong Delta.
