Monte Carlo simulation benefits to healthcare product manufacturers in radiation processing
The paper ‘Monte Carlo simulation benefits to healthcare product manufacturers in radiation processing’ is a result of recent collaboration between four iia members; Sartorius, Aerial-CRT, IBA and TRAD, Tests & Radiations.
It explores the benefits of Monte Carlo simulations for optimising dosimetry during product development and performance qualification (PQ). The objective of the study was to demonstrate how Monte Carlo simulation can help reduce costs and accelerate the time-to-market for healthcare products undergoing irradiation. A comparison between measured dose maps and Monte Carlo simulation results was performed and, for two complex products, demonstrated that simulated doses matched the measured dose.
Irradiation was carried out at the Aerial-CRT feerix facility that utilises an IBA Rhodotron TT300. RayXpert software was utilised for modelling interactions between radiation and biopharmaceutical products.
