Irradiation of all fresh fruit and vegetables approved in Australia and New Zealand
On May 12, 2021 Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) approved the amendment of Standard 1.5.3 of the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code to permit the use of irradiation as a phytosanitary measure for all fresh fruit and vegetables. Irradiation was already approved for 26 fruits and vegetables but any addition to the list required a specific petition and nutritional studies.
