iia supports and participates in Miller Conference

The iia supported and participated in the 33rd Miller Conference on Radiation Chemistry held on 5-10 October 2025. The conference was hosted by the Ruđer Bošković Institute, a member of iia, in Croatia and was attended by 147 participants from 27 countries.

The conference brought together leading scientists from all fields of radiation chemistry to exchange information on recent developments ranging from fundamental to applied topics such as material synthesis, environmental applications and medicine.

Xavier Coqueret, a member of the iia board, gave an introductory lecture and chaired the Polymers session; and Martin Comben of iia presented about ‘Global developments in the business and technologies of radiation processing’. Suresh Pillai of iia member National Centre for Electron Beam Research (Texas A&M University) gave an introductory lecture and chaired the Environmental Applications session, and later presented on ‘High energy ebeam technology for the destruction of PFAS in solid matrices’.

The iia held various meetings during the week to better understand the needs of academia, agree on a new iia publication to promote an irradiation application, help progress a new irradiator project and help address an operational issue at an existing irradiator.

The iia financially supported this conference to cover the cost of 6 student registration fees. Participation of students and young scientists remains a tradition of the Miller conference.

The next Miller conference will be held at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden. The iia will share further information as this becomes available.
