
IAEA Forum on NUTEC Plastics
In 2020, the IAEA launched the initiative NUclear TEChnology for Controlling Plastic Pollution (NUTEC Plastics), affirming the vital role of nuclear science in addressing one of the most urgent environmental crises of our time
On 25–26 November 2025, the ‘International High Level Forum on NUTEC Plastics’ will be held in Manila, Philippines. This meeting will be organized by the IAEA and hosted by The Government of the Philippines.
The purpose of the Forum is to provide a platform for presenting and evaluating the progress achieved to date, addressing current challenges, and charting a proactive course to strengthen regional and international cooperation in the sustainable management of plastic waste through innovative nuclear technologies. One of the meeting objectives is to identify the challenges to scaling radiation technologies for upcycling of plastic waste and propose global and regional strategies to overcome them.
