China Isotope & Radiation Corporation update
On 27th April 2022, The China Isotope & Radiation Corporation (CIRC), a member of iia, published its 2021 annual report. This document shows the complex nature and wide scope of CIRC activities that include research and development, manufacturing and sales of pharmaceuticals, radioactive sources and irradiation, nuclear medicine and laboratory services. Within the radiation processing industry, CIRC is the world’s third largest supplier of cobalt-60 (via Tongxing), and they own and operate multiple contract gamma and e-beam irradiators.
The annual report details continued growth and strong financial performance during 2021 as they enter the “14th Five-Year Plan” whilst managing the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Management Discussion and Analysis part of the reported the following.
As for the export of radioactive sources, the Group has successfully solved various difficulties such as with container and transportation faced by the export of independent cobalt-60 radioactive sources and realized the independent export of cobalt-60 radioactive sources for the first time on 17 December 2021, possessing the ability to supply cobalt-60 radioactive sources to international customers independently, and realized export sales revenue of RMB46.0 million for the year.
In the field of irradiation processing, the Group mainly aimed at providing the manufacturers of medical devices, food, traditional Chinese medicine and cosmetics for sterilisation in China, and meanwhile EPC services related to the design, manufacturing and installation of irradiation facilities is also accessible.
The Group actively promoted the irradiation product market and achieved record sales of new irradiation products, with sales of radiant cross-linked floor heating pipes reaching RMB11.0 million and revenue from testing services reaching RMB6.4 million. Overcoming the impact of the COVID-19, BINE, a subsidiary of the Company, commenced the installation and commissioning of the Malaysian irradiation station project as scheduled and signed another irradiation station project EPC contract including the export of cobalt-60 radioactive sources.
During the Reporting Period, the Group recorded RMB144.1 million of revenue from irradiation-related business, representing a year-on-year increase of 40.4%.
With increasing experience and confidence in the technology, CIRC devoted to providing not only the EPC service for the project with innovative Gamma irradiator and Cobalt-60 radioactive sources, but also Electron Beam facilities with different power ranges with the strategic partner for the worldwide market, as well as the maintenance and upgrading actions for existing irradiation plants.
CIRC is committed to a leading international provider of nuclear technology applications and services, to enable nuclear technology applications better for people’s lives.
