
ICARST-2025 attendance report
The iia participated in the Third International Conference on Applications of Radiation Science and Technology (ICARST-2025) that was held at the IAEA Vienna, 7-11 April 2025. This conference programme aimed to provide a comprehensive review of significant developments in applications of radiation science and technology, and provide a platform where representatives from industry and academia can develop new initiatives. The meeting was attended by ~700 people, with some sessions being made available to additional remote attendees. Members of iia were well represented with many speakers and 19 member companies exhibiting.
Martin Comben, iia General Manager of Gamma Irradiation, presented about ‘Industry collaboration to enhance the security and sustainability of radiation processing’. This presentation highlighted the collaborative projects and publications initiated by the iia Gamma Working Group, and discussed progress made by the irradiation industry towards the sustainable operating practices that were a key theme at IMRP 2024. Valuable meetings were held with members and affiliates of iia to discuss opportunities for collaboration that will promote the diverse beneficial applications of irradiation, highlight innovations in irradiation and provide regional industry and market updates. The iia will share further information about these new collaborative initiatives over the coming months.
