Security of Radioactive Sources Used in Industrial Radiation Processing
This joint iia/WINS Best Practice Guide helps those with responsibility for the management of security of gamma irradiation facilities to understand and manage security risk. It aims to define the responsibilities of the various stakeholders, provide practical advice on physical protection systems and security management, and discusses the importance of security culture and taking a whole life approach towards radioactive sources. It also contains a Self-Assessment Questionnaire that stakeholders at all levels of the organisation can use to help determine how effective their current security arrangements are for protecting their organisation’s radioactive sources. The results of the Self-Assessment Questionnaire can then be applied to the five-level Maturity Scale in the Guide.
This is an update to the Best Practice Guide originally published in 2020 that has now been revised to take into account cybersecurity considerations for gamma irradiation facilities. Those with a particular interest in cybersecurity may also be interested in iia’s Guide for Assessing Cybersecurity Programs at Gamma Irradiation Facilities.
