The iia supports Joint Industry Position Statement on ICRU Report 95

The iia is a signatory to a joint position statement on ICRU Report 95, which proposes a major revision to the quantities used to measure external radiation exposure. The nine signatories conclude that implementing new operational quantities is not justifiable for the wider nuclear industry. Changing the current, effective methods would take significant cost, time and effort, and risk confusing workers and the public, without any corresponding improvement in radiation protection.

Whilst the issues do not appear to have significant impact on the irradiation industry, the principle that changes need to be based on sound scientific data and need to be practical and affordable does apply.

Further details and a copy of the industry joint statement are available at this link to the World Nuclear Association website →
