Nordion and Sterigenics, members of iia, are hosting a webinar ‘Growing Supply: Cobalt-60 Production in the United States’ on 4 June 2026.

Cobalt-60 sterilizes over 16 billion medical devices annually in the U.S., but the country relies entirely on foreign sources despite consuming 50% of global supply. This webinar will explore Nordion and Westinghouse’s partnership with PSEG to develop first-of-a-kind technology for producing Cobalt-60 in U.S. Pressurized Water Reactors.

This webinar will discuss the current global supply chain, the impact of gamma sterilization on medical device manufacturing, the new domestic production platform targeting mid-2030s deployment, and the U.S. government’s role in supporting this critical infrastructure initiative.
