
National Focal Point awareness programme
The Transport Facilitation Working Group (TFWG), of which iia is a member, is running a short awareness programme aimed at IAEA Member States that are considering appointing a National Focal Point (NFP) for denials of shipments of radioactive material. The role of the NFP is to ensure that causes of denial and delay to shipments of radioactive material are addressed and successfully resolved. The iia contributed to this video that calls for the re-establishment of NFPs within all IAEA member states.
TFWG will be running two identical events on 22nd and 23rd July to cater for audiences from different time zones. The programme will cover: the definition and potential effects of denial of shipment; how denials are currently being addressed by industry and governments; who to appoint as a National Focal Point; the main tasks of a NFT and resources required.
