AGP Dynamic Solutions Completes Solid-State Modulator Retrofit for Swedish Medical Device Manufacturer
AGP Dynamic Solutions Inc. has completed the successful engineering retrofit and system integration of a solid-state modulator for a medical device client in Sweden. The upgrade replaced an aging line-type pulse modulator reliant on a thyratron tube with a ScandiNova K400 high-end solid-state klystron modulator system, providing superior performance, reliability, and improved energy efficiency.
Industrial linear accelerators (LINACs) used in medical device sterilization demand high pulse stability and maximum operational uptime. Legacy thyratron line-type modulators are subject to cathode degradation, thermal drift, pulse timing jitter, and sudden tube failure, leading to unplanned downtime and sourcing challenges for obsolete parts.
AGP Dynamic Solutions, alongside ScandiNova and the client’s site engineering team, executed the full integration scope—from initial risk assessment and off-site testing to mechanical installation and control system integration.
Applying a “service mindset” honed over 30 years in accelerator engineering, AGP incorporated conservative component derating, system-to-system isolation, and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components to ensure long-term maintainability and system stability.
