‘Comprehensive Generic Doses for Phytosanitary Irradiation’ PsIP Webinar

Thursday 30 May 2024 | 8:30am – 9:30am HST (2:30pm EDT, 7:30pm BST)

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN

The PsIP recently announced their latest webinar ‘Comprehensive Generic Doses for Phytosanitary Irradiation’ is to be held 30 May 2024, 8:30am – 9:30am HST (2:30pm EDT, 7:30pm BST). This will be the third live webinar in the latest PsIP series of presentations covering topical phytosanitary issues. Registration for this webinar is now open at this link.

This webinar will be presented by Dr Peter Follett, an internationally recognised expert in post-harvest entomology and quarantine treatment development. Dr Follet works for the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Research Service (ARS) in Hawaii. He has been active in applied entomology for 30 years, is well known for his work on phytosanitary irradiation and has championed the generic dose concept. An abstract for his presentation can be found below:

“A generic treatment, when used within phytosanitary irradiation, is a single treatment that controls a broad group of pests on all fresh produce without compromising product quality. Internationally, a dose of 150Gy is agreed to be an effective generic treatment for all fruit flies. This provided significant impetus to the commercial uptake of phytosanitary irradiation. The success of the generic dose concept allows for expansion and refinement to treat a wider range of pests, the approval of which would reduce the time and cost of research, and of regulatory and trade bottlenecks. The background and progress of this research will be discussed in this presentation.”

This webinar will include a Q&A session after the presentation, and will be recorded and uploaded to the PsIP website and YouTube channel for those unable to attend the live event.
