WINS/iia Methodology for assessing the effectiveness of security arrangements at gamma irradiation facilities

The iia and WINS have jointly published an updated ‘Methodology for Assessing the Effectiveness of Security Arrangements at Gamma Irradiation Facilities’.

Originally published in 2021, with input from the iia Gamma Working Group and trialed at a European facility, the updated methodology now focuses on enabling self-assessment by operators rather than third-party assessments.

The methodology outlines a 5-step process: planning, preparation, assessment, reporting findings, and follow-up. It addresses 7 key security areas: governance, physical protection, incident response, security culture, cybersecurity, information security, and personnel security. It includes indicators for effective arrangements, benchmarking tools, sample questions, guidance, tips, and example reports.
