Sunland Inc files for bankruptcy protection
In fall, 2012 people in 20 US States contracted Salmonella from natural and organic peanut butter which had been produced by Sunland Inc. of Portales, New Mexico.
The company initiated a product recall and ceased operations. By November Sunland was eager to reopen but the U.S. Food and Drug Administration suspended the company’s food facility registration. Sunland eventually reopened in May 2013 but the period of closure appears to have caused serious financial stain. The company has now gone into receivership.
