New technological platform opens in Normandy, France
Based in Cherbourg, France, ATRON Metrology, a part of CERAP and a subsidiary of the major French energy group ENGIE has started offering technical and research services in nuclear instrumentation and research on effects of irradiation.
The main equipment of the platform is a 3,5 MeV Singletron HVE electrostatic accelerator with a removable X-ray target. The machine can produce an electron or X ray beam from 1 pA to 1mA with a dose rate up to 10 kGy/s.
The facility is equipped with tools that allow the creation of specific irradiation conditions as well as a laboratory for measurements and analysis.
ATRON will use the new facility to implement their innovative non isotopic method to check the calibration of devices measuring ionizing radiation but also for studies of accelerated ageing of materials, qualification of electronic components or embedded systems in hostile environments (nuclear or aerospace), or enhancement of polymers.
